As the game carried on, I found myself constantly sticking with the limo for its higher defense since the zombie hordes greatly pick up in later missions. Each car has its own attributes, such as higher defense for the limo. Besides a taxi, the game gives you a sports car, a limo, a big truck as well as other vehicles. Thankfully, you can upgrade your car and buy extra weapons. The variety of zombies will increase as well – you’ll be fighting bigger zombies and some zombies that explode that can highly damage your car when in close range to their explosion. Zombie Driver starts out relatively simple then the difficulty ramps up as the zombie hordes increase. The framerate is constantly smooth, even during raining stages. It’s very noticeable how well the framerate holds up in this game even with all the carnage that takes place on the screen at times. No matter what objective you take on, you’ll be driving through and battling tons of zombies. After performing all objectives, you’ll have to meet up at a certain safe house in order to complete the mission. The game also throws in some secondary objectives that you can perform for some extra cash. Objectives include picking up survivors from a designated area, defeating bosses, clearing a certain area along with other types of goals. Certain vehicles afford you certain actions, like the fire engine’s ability to take on flames. Thankfully, usually when you mess up – crashing into barriers, zooming headfirst into hordes and what have you – it’s usually down to your own influence and not that of the controls. Learning to handle all thirteen different vehicles is key to your success, and in my 8 or so hours of playing I can’t tell you just how important it is to master the art of the handbrake turn. And really, were it not for the fact that all your actions are performed from the seat of a weapon-equipped vehicle, there wouldn’t be much to separate Zombie Driver: Immortal Edition from, say, Housemarque’s Dead Nation. It boils down to 31 bite-sized missions that, while brief, feature a range of tasks like defending key targets, transporting randoms back to base and taking down bosses. The original story mode remains intact, casting you as a taxi driver who is forced to help other survivors in need of a lift amidst the zombie outbreak. Opting for ‘Immortal’ as a subtitle not only references Zombie Driver’s insistence on never going away, but also acts a smart way of suggesting just how much of your time its likely to suck up, thanks to the amount content on offer here. You won’t want to hold onto the cash though – you’ll want to spend it on both vehicle and weapon upgrades to improve your chances of survival. Bosses you come across are gloriously gruesome, often taking a lot of damage before they burst.īy completing missions and bonus objectives, you unlock new vehicles and upgrade opportunities, as well as piles of cash. Each mission tasks you with an objective, such as saving survivors or taking down humongous zombies, and there are also bonus objectives to complete. Trapped in a city where nearly everyone has been turned into a shambling zombie thanks to a chemical accident, it’s up to you to save who you can while fighting against the zombie hordes. While Zombie Driver: Immortal Edition‘s Blood Race and Slaughter modes are entertaining enough in their own right, it’s campaign mode that will really hold your attention.
